Having laid a stunning white porcelain terrace at their totally refurbished Cheltenham home in 2019, the owners wanted to further enhance the space to make an exciting contemporary garden.  The brief was to create a garden that could be enjoyed from the new terrace in good weather and from inside all year round. Lighting, minimal structural planting and a water feature were also important.

The design features a bed of white, pink and grey ‘Flamingo’ stone chippings which wraps entirely around the terrace and embraces a square water feature.  Planted with grasses, agapanthus and lavender, this extends the white terracing to increase its impact and the feeling of space.  Continuing along the fence to the side, the gravel is punctuated by three large cubes planted with phormium ‘Pink Stripe’, leading to the top of the garden where a magnificent nolina nelsonii sits in front of a semicircle of box hedging.

“We are thrilled with the garden that Claire designed for us; it’s a stunning transformation! She very quickly understood the contemporary look we hoped to achieve and her design was creative, innovative and had the ‘wow’ factor we were looking for. The dark corner of our garden has been wonderfully transformed into a bright, spacious and aesthetically pleasing area.  The illumination in the evening enhances the drama of the design. We just love it!”  Mike and Joan
